Started in 1983 with just a few volunteers providing free rides to people on New Years Eve who had a few too many drinks, the service has grown to well over 200 volunteers who give up their New Year’s Eve to make sure individuals who have had too much to drink have a safe way home. Last year over 1700 individuals in Nashville received a free and safe ride home on New Years Eve.

When you are ready to go home, call 615-862-RIDE (7433) between 10 p.m. New Year’s Eve and 2 a.m. New Year’s Day for a free, safe, and sober ride home – no questions asked. Volunteers will take you home, not to another party. Reservations not accepted.

Sober Ride is celebrating 26 years of service and have taken 25,000 people home over the years. Congratulations Davidson’s County Sheriff’s Office and all the volunteers for such a great service to keep Nashville safe.

December 23rd at 12:01 am, three Anchor Trailways & Tours motorcoaches will be parked ready for boarding by members of the 278th Calvary of the Tennessee Army National Guard eager to return home from Camp Shelby in Missisipi to Ashland City and Henderson, TN to spend the Christmas holiday with their families. As a result of confusion of funding it was feared these soldiers would not be able to get home for their holiday break and we could not let that happen. As soon as we heard the story on the news, we contacted the persons involved and told them we would be honored to donate three coaches and the services of our drivers to bring these men and women home. As a DOD certified transportation provider, we have done this trip many times and look forward to this trip more than most! This is the service we provide and we could not think of more deserving passengers to provide it for.

Long-time Shoals-based business, Anchor Tours is pleased to be the official transportation sponsor of the NCAA Division II Championships being played in Florence, AL. The competing teams are Grand Valley State and Northwest Missouri State and they will meet up on Saturday at Braly Municipal Stadium, the home field of the University of Northern Alabama (UNA). The events kick off (no pun intended) this evening, 12/10, with an informal supper, leading to a breakfast of locals and those in the know at a favorite area haunt in the morning (including chocolate gravy), a VIP/Sponsors lunch on Friday, and the Harlon Hill Supper Friday night. This special evening event includes the induction of former Savannah State standout, and current CBS NFL Today football analyst, Shannon Sharpe into the Division II Hall of Fame. The teams are in town practicing, strategizing and basking in the excitement. They are being transported about town aboard the Anchor Tours motorcoaches. NCAA dignitaries, coach spouses and other event VIPs can also be seen riding the Anchor Tours Executive Coach. All activities culminate in the nationally-televised championship game on Saturday. What a great time to be here in Florence, AL!

October 14-17, Music City came alive with Anchor Trailways & Tours motorcoaches transporting attendees of the 2009 National Preservation Conference. The event was held by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, a private non-profit organization focused on saving historic places and revitalizing communities. A number of Nashville landmarks were visited by this group including The Factory at Franklin, just south of the city, and a candlelight tour of East Nashville, a neighborhood that has been beaten down by fire, flood, and urban renewal, in that order, and yet lives and thrives today as a tribute to Nashville’s history and heritage. Click here to learn more about this fascinating event and this interesting organization.

The readers of Travel + Leisure Magazine have again named Nashville as the friendliest US city to visit (we earned that recognition in 2004 and 2005 too)! The annual summer survey also looks at culture, shopping, restaurants, nightlife among many other features that respondents say they desire in a vacation destination. Nashville also ranked 2nd in the nation for live music and concerts and 4th for an affordable getaway. Our great city also found itself among the top 10 for safety, affordable hotels, bed and breakfasts, singles/bar scenes and wild weekends. Whatever you are looking for in a vacation, Music City offers it all and we are so proud to be among the tourism businesses that make your stay here a positive one!
